Uganda Integrated Community Based Projects started work in 2003 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, registered in Uganda under the Ministry of Internal Affaires NGO Statute of 1989, registration number S. 5914 / 5952.  Their mission is one of empowering disadvantaged rural women, girls, and boys in the areas of education, health, socio-economic and spiritual psychosocial support in Uganda.

Since our inception, we have helped through

  • the training of 546 individuals as family-parish-level change agents on HIV and AIDS; about 1,000 people can now mention at least two modes of HIV prevention, two ways of how HIV can be transmitted.
  • 6,112 community members have gained HIV/AIDS knowledge, skills and  have benefited through our capacity building trainings, community awareness seminars and workshops.
  • 221 orphans and other vulnerable children have been offered educational support.
  • To educate those who thought that HIV/AIDS is as a result of witchcraft, about 2,845 rural people have been accessed with relevant information and service providers through appropriate referrals for HCT, medical care, spiritual psychosocial support and treatment.
  • 314 women have confessed that they are now living a happy marriage with their spouses after participating in one of our trainings.
  • 229 women are now community structure advocates against gender based violence on women.
  • 151 widows infected and affected by HIV/AIDS are benefiting from our livelihoods support services.

These results are inspiring!  Now, we need your help. We would not be asking, and not like this, if this were not a critical time. We hope that you will please help us continue our critical mission in Uganda.  You can donate by clicking the ChipIn button above.  Thank you very much!

David Morris – Racing to Save Lives

Progress: $1,445/$2,000 (72%)

Please go here to donate to David Morris’ Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training!

I’m training to participate in this years Marine Corps Marathon, October 31st, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line – a cure!

How serious is blood cancer? Every five minutes, someone in the United States learns that he or she has leukemia, Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma. Every ten minutes, someone dies of a blood cancer.

Training for a marathon isn’t easy. Asking people to make a donation, not easy. However living with cancer makes fundraising and training seem like a cakewalk! Please help support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission time by making a donation! Thank you.

PASS IT ON – Forward this site to your friends, family and co -workers!
All donations are 100% tax deductible

Jeffrey Michael Moore – Medical Expenses for Radiation Therapy

My name is Jeffrey Michael Moore, and I was brought into this world on September, 23, 2008.  I was 9lbs 1oZ., 21 INCHES LONG.  At 1 month old, I was admitted to INOVA Fairfax with SVT (Super vantricular Tacardia), and I am currently taking medication to keep my little heart rate regular.

Jeffrey Moore Cancer

Jeffrey Moore

Now, at the age of 19 months Jeffrey was faced with a massive brain tumor.  It is an anitplastic Ependymoma tumor, which is cancerous.  He went through an invasive surgery on monday May 3, 2010 that was 13 hours long. He has a great neurosurgeon, Doctor Myseros, who is 99.9% sure that he removed all of the tumor.  They have done a spinal tap to see if there is any cancer cell in the fluid.  The fluid came back negitive for cancer cells!!  This is a long road for us and for jeffrey.  We hope and pray daily that he pulls through.  As of today (5-11-10) Jeffrey is home and getting his strengh back. He is walking and talking and turning back into the child we use to know.

Jeffrey has started chemo and will go through this for 3-4 months, then have radiation in Boston.  The chemo has taken him for a trip; he has not had good luck with his blood counts after getting strep. He’s continuing to stay strong for us!!

If you would like to help Jeffrey’s family afford the trip to Boston for radiation, please donate by clicking “ChipIn” above.  Thank you so much!

Haiti Orphanage – Scott Moreland

Fundraiser Completed – Please Donate to a Different Fundraiser :)

Scott Volunteer in Haiti

Scott on previous trip to Mexico

From August 9th-25th of 2010, Scott will be traveling with a group from Orchard Hill Church to visit the EBAC orphanage in Cap Haitian, Haiti.  Orchard Hill Church has a long standing privilege of partnering with the EBAC orphanage.  EBAC houses approximately 100 children and young adults who either have no family or whose families cannot afford to feed them.

While there, Scott and his team will organize a children’s summer camp for those living at the orphanage.  This experience will be a breath of fresh air for the people in this country that have recently gone through the devastation of an earthquake.

If you are interested in supporting Scott, please press the “ChipIn!” button above.  In total, he will need to raise $2,000 by July 1st.

NOTE: If you would like your donation to be tax-deductible, please send us an email through the Contact page (do not donate online).  We can make arrangements for you to mail a check to Scott.

*Orchard Hill Church also has relationships with missionaries on the ground in Haiti.  Click here to read the latest update on the orphanage from missionaries Kathy and Alice.

Tips for How To Fundraise

Whether you’re raising money for victims suffering in a humanitarian disaster, or fundraising for a volunteer trip to Vietnam, there are a million ways to earn money and reach your goal.  The following will help describe the process of both online fundraising and “off-line” fundraising.

Steps

  1. Make a detailed plan for your fund-raising. How are you going to raise funds? Sales, Grants, Donations, Public or Community Service?
  2. Set a goal. How much do you need to raise?
  3. Create a timeline. How much time do you have to raise it?
  4. Who will you ask for the money? What is your target audience? Whether you are raising money for your self or an organization, this is critical. Look first for a list of previous donors to this or similar causes. If this is unavailable, create a list from Christmas-card lists; school, club or church directories; or lists of co-workers or neighbors.

Who Should You Raise Funds From?

  1. Who will you ask for the money? What is your target audience? Medical professionals, houses of worship, local businesses, private citizens et cetera…

How will you ask for the money?

  1. The likeliest method is an event. This sets a certain date and helps keep the fundraising on-track.
  2. An event can be anything from your birthday, a head shave, a run ride or swim. Basically if you ask your friends to donate to a good cause that is important to you they will respond. Not so much for the cause but because you asked them. Asking by email is the best. After you create an online page simply email your freinds. Those that wish to donate will, those that don’t won’t. There is no embarrassing asking for money face to face. Also your friends will donate more because they are using their credit cards rather than giving you spare change from their wallets!
  3. Take advantage of any special talents you might have. Maybe you sew and crochet–make some items to sell. You can sell them online, at a craft show, or set up shop in your own front yard, and have a garage sale to go with it, to earn extra.
  4. Log onto the internet, type in “fund-raising items”, or you can type in “wholesale candles”, or “wholesale picture frames”,depending on what it is that you want to sell. By going through wholesale you can get a lot more products than you would going to a retail store, and for a better price.
  5. Make a sign or print up some fliers, letting your customers know what their money is going towards.
  6. Have a change jar set up on your pay table, and people can drop their loose change into it, at the end of the day, go to your supermarket, or one that has a change-counting machine. Drop all the change into the machine, then it will print up a receipt for you, to take over to a cashier. Then the cashier will hand you the amount in bills, and you won’t have to send change, or spend change, to fund your fund-raiser.

Use The Online Fundraiser

  1. Create an online fund-raising profile at The Online Fundraiser. Send the link to your family, friends, co-workers, parishioners, teammates, etc. and collect donations via credit cards online. It’s easy and simple, and eliminates spending a lot of time sending letters, calling people, and organizing big events. The benefit is that all your donors are immediately receipted and the money is sent directly to the charity. Then go a step further and get your donors to join your fundraising team and reach out to all of their friends and family so you turn your fundraiser into a viral campaign.

Tips

More important tips for raising funds:

  • You can have friends, family, and people in your neighborhood donate items to you, so you can sell them in your yard sale.
  • If you’re already on a tight budget, then a craft show probably isn’t for you at this time. For many official craft shows, you have to be willing to spend $25.00 and higher for a booth.
  • Get a backpack or briefcase instead of handling your papers freely. It makes you look professional and it doesn’t let your papers fly in the wind.
  • Many foundations will only give to charitable not-for-profits (i.e. 501(c)3 IRS tax status). Be sure to include a copy of this status with any letters you send to a foundation for support. Less work on their end to verify your status equals more time they can spend on learning about your cause and qualifying a contribution.

Warnings

  • Fundraising agencies typically take 5-10% of the funds they raise for you in exchange for hosting and managing the pages, dealing with all enquiries, doing all the receipting and generally taking the hassle out of fundraising. Be sure to carefully review the contract terms before hiring an agency to raise funds for you. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Online Fundraiser takes 0% of the funds you raise.  It’s all your’s!!!
